Michaels, I think it's worth a negotiating phone call started with "are all your calls recorded?" Ask for 50% in the hope of getting 25, fridge will go to landfill, not environmentally friendly etc , you're the one being inconvenienced , worth a try
Thanks for all your replies and good wishes. Hillbern you are right. I am fighting to get residential care for Mum, for a short period of time. Here it's called Intermediate Care and can last up to 6 weeks ,or at least that's what it used to be. She needs more help than I can give at the moment and needs time to get back on her feet or adapt to the new normal whatever that may be.
Here we call it assessment/re-ablement, same thing.
Please don't ever tell them that you can /will help her, even thought we all know you will.
We have DMIL in the same situation, but they are calling it respite. She has been in need of support for a very long time, and whilst I would normally deal with everything like this, I was told by the eldest brother reasonably politely, that it is not my role as she is not my mother. I have tried my best to get them through the system, and ensure she gets the support needed. But oh my god they are all hard work. They just will not accept the view of minimal state intervention, they think that her attendance allowance is money for her day to day, and that the LA will fund everything that they ask for, despite them highlighting that they are doing all these tasks now. Bang head against the wall. She ended up in hospital for a minor issue, and they realised how bad she was... hence the respite. I think when she gets moved she will settle and not want to leave! Bloody long way around the system. So my advice Sue, is tell them you cannot do anything at all. They will provide some support... you can then fill the gaps!
Michael - 10% discount... tell them you want 50% or they can collect the fridge!
TM, pleased your car is undamaged...you can understand people loosing their rag and acting inappropriately with youngsters, and cracking them one. Please you restrained yourself and did not run him over!
DS1 just sent me an update on his work...he is in a 4* Michelin restaurant and amazed when his posh pudding turned out to be grapefruit with rice crisps.
DS2 was tasked with purchasing an expensive piece of equipment and disposing of the old one, which had to be dismantled at several thousand, with the dismantling company then selling the metal for scrap. He ended up finding a company that will buy and remove the old one, it has resulted in cost saving of just short of £15k... apparently with the depreciation it had no value... and he may have caused the company some accountancy problems!
With DS1 visit over, DS3 has moved into our old bedroom, and has his first double bed at the grand age of 28... god knows how he managed on a tiny single bed. We have moved into the house... still no front door, lights, ballustrade, no hot water, and lots more basics missing....and a half mile to the loo in the dark in the middle of the night! But it is nice to have some privacy. Note to self, do not live in a garage with an adult son!
Things ARE crazy everywhere in my opinion! Completely back to front and upside down ...
I say this at least twice a day every day.
i was driving through a car park today as schools were coming out and a group of lads were walking ahead of me. I slowed down and one little toad refused to move out of the way. He slowed right down and just kept walking ahead inches from my bonnet.i was so tempted to put my foot down😂😂😂😂
i knew the second my car touched him, I was doomed. This lasted for about 10/20 seconds but he eventually moved out of the way. I eased forward past him and he kicked the car and punched the side windows as I drove by😕 The cars not dented or anything. I just got to thinking how angry with the world he must be and how easily situations can escalate.
Crazy world indeed sleazy
Lol I often wish I had two guns at the front of my car that I could blast 💥
Good morning, thanks for the coffee, it was really needed.
Saw Mum yesterday, she is slightly better and talking a little bit again. Asked to speak to the doctor in charge of her care and I am livid. They have already assessed her as fit and safe to comer home in a few days which is ridiculous Tested her mobility with 2 physio's holding her up. Said I disagreed that she was able to mobilize on her own and this was her third admission in 3 weeks. Only so much I could do to look after her and I want Intermediate Care before she comes home. Doctor asked me if I was in the medical profession as I seemed to know a lot about it! Looks like I am going to have to fight my corner which is going to upset Mum as she just wants to get home.
Sue, have you Power of Attorney? It’ll give you a stronger voice for her.
Question for the elite. When they delivered new fridge yesterday it had a small dent in the door - told delivery guy who took a photo but thought we can live with this rather than the hassle of them taking it away.
Now of course with it in place it looks annoying. Currys have offered 10% off goodwill or an exchange but this will involve loads of hassle (empty fridge, remove doors, wait for them to collect, reinstall new one etc. The logical thing would be for them to send a new door only and exchange this but that is not apparently an option. Should we live with the dent and take the 10% (will we even notice after a while as no doubt it will get scratches, things stuck on etc) or go through the hassle of a replacement? Thoughts?
It depends on whether it’ll get more annoying or if you’ll stop noticing it? But I agree that you should ask for more discount.

I think I have stopped noticing already. This is the fridge that 'cost' 2099 but I was getting for 375 ('siders, price match, comsav, lg promotion) - another 10% off will bring that down by 210, negotiate that to 20% off they will have paid me. Can I have a star on my badge please?
It is not all good I keep getting annoying bing on my phone whenever the kids spend too long with the door open deciding ha they will snack on next and DD2 who has an aesthetic bent has told us we can't put the stuff we use most often in the 'knock knock' door in door but have to arrange it by what looks nice there.

So I was asking about booking BA flights - can get £50 off £200 on Amex - except that the amex search only brings up the 'no bags' economy fare, there is no way to book the with bags fare through that site and buying the bags as an add on costs enough more to make it more expensive even with the £50 off
Anywhere else do any sort of discounts on flight bookings and specifically BA?
Edit: Com sav seem to do 10% on BA - to good to be true?

Pah! When I did the insiders fridge, the small print said I could not do any other promotion
A boys on bike incident happened to me in the summer - 2nd floor/top uncovered supermarket carpark.
Got in the car and was driving slowly to get to the exit and three boys, young teenagers, on bikes were doing wheelies right in front of my car slowing me down and going round and doing it again. On the third time I though s*d this I am not letting them intimidate me and gave a quick hoot on the horn, made no difference - so (I have been told off about this by family and told to stay in the car in future) I got out of the car and shouted get out of the way - it had been one of those days I'd been chasing my tail and just wanted to get home - got back in the car and drove off towards the exit and could see them making a charge together to follow me. I pulled up behind where the mini cabs park and thought I would wait until they go away, but they came and started spitting at my car and a big blob of gob nearly came through the passenger front window before I closed it.
Another shopper must have alerted the store as a security guard came out and chased them away. I stayed put as thought they may follow my car and cause some damage to it once I left the store carpark as traffic at that time was especially bad due to lots of road closures so I would be stuck in traffic like a sitting duck.
After around 15 minutes they came back up the ramp cycling around and shouted 'there she is' as they must have been waiting by the exit for me to go out!! At that point more spitting on my car - I stayed put again, but was fuming and again they were chased off by security. After another 20 mins I ventured to the exit and couldn't see them and left. Put me off going to that store for a while! oh and they also filmed it all so that upset me - nothing I could do about it as the situation could have escalated
For anybody looking for red wine ATM at Lidl this weekend they will have a South African Shiraz at £2.99 a bottle so £17.94 for a case of six (England only)
I've had this before and it really is very palatable for the money

Ha. My secret thoughts are that blades pop out of the tyres /wheels then pop back in unnoticed 🤣

What a bargain, congrats michaels! But seriously 10%, they are having a laugh. I think you should push for 20% and make it free. Alternatively you could contact the manufacturer direct and ask them to provide you with a spare door as Currys are being difficult, a friend of mine did this. We were in the same position with John Lewis and as we aren’t big on magnets we were certain that we prefer a new one delivered. When the guys came to make the exchange it turned out they were authorised to negotiate which took us by surprise. It was a Miele fridge freezer that was on offer for £750 from £999, they offered further £250 for us to keep it and so we did It also came with £50 Waitrose gift card making it just £450, oh and another £30 from tcb so we were pretty pleased. It’s just a small dent though which is now covered nicely by, you guessed it, a magnet
I thought I had gone down the toy aisle earlier, but no, they really were the cereal boxes 😱. Are they cutting packaging for the environment, or significant shrinkflation ...? 🤔
