Good morning. I'm one of those that you might count as a reader rather than a poster... I like the banter but don't seem to have much to add to the general discussions usually. However the post from Freewheeling about her cat has encouraged me to post
My cat was diagnosed with renal kidney failure having lost 75% of kidney function back in Feb of this year...she is 12. I wanted to share our experience, yes she's ill and there are times when we have had a quick rush to the vets but so far things have not been as bad as the things I initially read on the web about prognosis etc.
We don't have a medication,at present things are being controlled by diet...plenty of water and hills prescription diet kidney care K/D.It comes from the vet and can be either wet or dry...dry has worked best for us and possibly cheaper but she was always fed dry food so doesn't particularly like wet.
We have to be more careful of things like colds and keep litter trays changed more frequently than recommended. She's had a bout of feline cystitis recently and thankfully it didn't signal the end stages, she bounced back with antibiotics and a daily dose of a wonder liquid! We've also had some nosebleeds which again were very frightening but some TLC and gentle care bought us all through that too.
Strange as it may sound now that we have her stabilised on the diet she has more vigour and has returned to an almost kitten like stage, she enjoys playing with strings and toys that she has suddenly rediscovered from long ago.
Our most recent vet visit did indicate that there is an increase in her heart murmur which had been present some years back but had thus far been stable for the last 2 years, although I'm led to believe that its not uncommon for them to fluctuate a little and she isn't about to suddenly drop down dead. Whilst linked possibly to the kidney situation its not overly critical at the moment
My understanding is that lifespan can be very much helped by the diet and medication so we hope we do indeed have another year with her.
Somedays you'll think you have a new cat,and somedays you'll just need to give him a little bit of space and time on his own curled up somewhere safe and warm.
FW enjoy your time with Q its not the end yet...
Life is a strange thing, just when you think you've learned how to use it, it's gone
Strawberri thank you so much for your post. Your cat's situation sounds like it could be similar to ours. Funnily enough we had noticed that Q seems to have more energy and he's been going outside too, which is something he had stopped a few years ago. He currently eats just Purina biscuits, and the vet said that Purina do a special renal biscuit so we've got those on order.
I think it was just the shock of realising how ill he is which upset me so much. In reality he seems happy and not in discomfort. So I will draw hope from your post and others, and just make the most of the time he has left :-).
FW...in terms of food it is important that you don't deviate from a renal food. Its bland and especially in the beginning he probably will turn his nose up at it but keep tying.
Its also important that they eat regularly rather than going long periods of time without food so if you can keep a supply of dry food always available
Don't look at it as if he's ill, take every day as bonus. It just becomes part of life and don't focus on it as the main thing.

Well Ive woken up with the news that my DS 20 year old cat Jesse passed in the night. Jesse had thyroid problems and had been on medication and special food for years. Ironically my other DS cat died 6 months ago and was also about 20 years old and had thyroid probs and also been on medication and special food for years. Also ironically, both cats passed the day Boris was announced as PM. Marms, 6 months ago, Jesse in the early hours just gone. Bit sppoky eh. RIP Jesse and Marms
Good morning everyone. I've been trying to do some outside jobs between rain showers but it's now turned more persistent, so I'm having a mug of hot water and a lion bar to keep me going until lunch time.

RIP Jesse and Marms :-(
20 is a good age though :-).
Heather, treat yourself and dunk a tea bag in it ;-).
I love the chair too just as it is - it's full of character. It's amazing that your dog hasn't chewed the teddies to pieces as I'm sure mine would just think they're more toys. I have to keep my teddies well out of their sight.
Looks like I have to leave the chair as it is.....Okay, I respect all opinions on here. So, It will stay as it is during my lifetime. Thank you
Marley has his own family of teds to look after, He has Nellie Elephant, Woofie the dawg, Thumper Rabbit, Guy Gorilla, Leo Lion and Tigger Tiger. At least until he's chewed them and pulled the stuffing out of them....He gets recycled extras every year from the boot sales.
We've got an awful lot of dog toys but the stuffed ones don't survive very long. I've started buying unstuffed ones from Amazoon as the pup was destroying the stuffed ones and eating the filling. Does Marley know the name of his toys ie if you say fetch Woofie?
Marmie Love the Christmas bedding and such a tidy room ho walks the dawg when you work long shifts ?
FW Similar idea of change of diet and meds gave friends dog many more years Glad your fears were unfounded yesterday
DH is taking the dog to the park this morning DH is not fit for a run so will jog with the dog (hopefully)
I am going to finish my cash back claims Get monies paid on the ones that do not have anything waiting for authorisation and finish writing my cards
Enjoy your day
He gets a walk when I get home, I take him across the road to the village lake, its, just a short lake but most days we do a 3 miler...
Give my boy Fish4Dogs.....He loves it
I've got my pup on Fish4Dogs puppy food but has stools aren't always well formed, so I've started mixing it with the Barking Heads Salmon and it seems to be doing the trick. I first bought their 7 day trial pack, which I can't currently see listed on their website. This included a 50% off your first order code. When you join the puppy club you also get 10% off and if your order is over £100 you also get another 10% off. I obviously took advantage of all the offers and bought 9 months of food at a bargain price.

Funny that you should ask but yes he does.....When I say its bedtime and to get whichever one. He fetches it and up to bed we go...He's a great dog....He will be 10 next May... We have the same birth date by coincidence.

I thought you were going to say dunk a biscuit in it. I actually enjoy a mug of hot water. I start the day with 2 coffees, then a nescafe latte but for the remainder of the day just have hot water.

I buy in bulk to save extra....One 15kg bag lasts him two months which is not bad and I suppose averages out at about 75p a day. F4Ds have an additional £10 off starting today but its on Working Dog Salmon Regular bite. I get him this but he's got enough to last about 8 months. They have offers on most fortnightly intervals.
I will add that he never has an upset tummy and the other end is never runny....
What a lovely helpful post from Strawberri. Just be careful FW that no-one else is feeding Quentin whilst he's outdoors. If he ventures into neighbours gardens, it may be worth putting a paper collar on him saying do not feed as on a prescription diet.

What a fantastic age they got to - they were obviously doing something right. As you say a very spooky coincidence though.
After a little bit of ebay advice. I have purchased some pans and a stand. The stand has arrived broken and one of the pans has been cracked and the handle has broken. There was no fragile label on the box. The seller has refused (very quickly I might add) a return and a refund on the basis that he packed it really well and did offer the insurance which I did not take because I expected it to come fully in tact. I have taken ple ty of photos and sent them as proof. I obviously have to wait the 10 days for ebay to step in. How long does ebay take to review it and what would your guys thoughts be on this?
Marmie, you sound like me with a good stock of dog food amongst other things. I've got 12 sacks of adult dog food in the house currently plus puppy food. You can't move in my pantry for it and I've had to put 4 sacks in the spare bedroom. I don't usually have such a huge stock but Amazoon were selling Barking Heads for £28 during Black Friday week.

Anyone use CSJ dog food on here. My dog has been on it for years. At the moment on the senior one "old champ". Its very cheap and lots of the trainers at hearing dogs use it for their own dogs. Tessa is 10 and half and still running round like a puppy

I've just checked back on my emails - the last time I opened an ebay dispute it took 10 days from opening the case until I received my refund. It's therefore looking like 20 days in total. You shouldn't be responsible for the items arriving damaged. It should be up to the seller to make a claim with the courier.
I've just googled it and found this, although there may be more recent discussions:

I'd never heard of that food before. Just googled a picture of it and definitely not seen it either. It obviously suits Tessa well.

Thank you that has gone some way to put my mind at rest. Can you remember if you had to return the item? Such a pain in the bum because it was a present for my mum as she has always wanted a set of le crueset pans.

Not an expert but would fully expect that if you open a significantly not as described, ie broken, then ebay will find in your favour, if as a buyer he doesn't accept returns then he not likely to offer a partial refund either, may take time but expect you would win.

My last dispute was for an item that never arrived - he conned me and lots of other people by selling things cheaply and not posting them. A few years ago I received a large kitchen pedal bin that was damaged and I didn't have to return it but the value was only about £20. I'm sure your pan set was a lot more, so the seller will probably insist they are returned. It will be up to them to provide a pre-paid label though.
My neighbours a young couple have been a little daft and said a parcel never arrived as it was left outside in a plastic container and driver forged their signature. At first they never knew but when they found it they never contacted the company. The company now say they can track parcel and the switch will be blocked so can't be used. They asked me what to do but not sure what to say they are a nice couple and are worried they are now going to get in trouble. Any advice please xxc
