I thought landlines were going over to VOIP, yet today there are contractors in my road replacing the overhead lines from houses to telegraph poles.
"The last bit is still the same" is how the Openreach maintenance man explained it to me. The fibre "goes to the box on the corner, from there to your house is still copper wires".
Thanks both. I didn’t know this. My VOIP, from Virgin, is a little device plugged into the back of my router.
Morning, kettles on. Not much cake left so be quick!
Hugs and loves to all needed or not and extra squishes going too xxx
Big tea please. I’m making scotch pancakes for breakfast with any combo of syrup, banana or La vie bacon. (All 3 for me…..) Here’s to a good / better day for all.
Thanks for the hurricane sleazy and also posting that o2 railcard offer - will check if I can get that when I return home. (I have an o2 pays sim) £10 is a great offer. Enterprise- pleased to hear positive news after such worry and stress. Everything feels better after a good sleep. Brace yourself for an earbashing if you have any role in encouraging/ supervising physio 😂

A short cable with a little plug at one end and a socket for your phone at the other end? When VOIP first started operating you had to have a specific sort of phone, fortunatley they changed this over the years.
I suspect OH will be properly retiring very soon now, some of his clients will not like it but they will have to lump it Also, he still wants a dog (prefereably a beagle) and I refuse to have one whilst we might be out all day for several days in a row.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

Exactly that. Was a few years ago when we had a fault on the landline and rather than fix it, they just gave us that. Works on any phone.

Can the cables and sockets in the house be removed now? I'm hoping to decorate the hall soon and we still have both the VM and BT sockets/wires in. Would be ideal if I could remove them.
Thanks Josie I use ziffit but didn’t know about this one. They’re offering slightly more on a couple of my books, double on two of them! Only trouble is I don’t really shop at WHSmith, Are you able to buy other giftcards using the WHSmith gift card?
Does anybody here have any experience of 'Attendance allowance'? What it is, how to get it, that sort of thing.
It's been suggested to me that once I start getting my OAP in a couple of months, I should think about applying for it, but if it's a stressful process not sure that I would.

Morningish all.
I am hesitant to say yes without seeing your installation. The main reason being that there is actually a way to get the sockets working again, though it is not an easy fix for someone that does not know what they are doing.
If you are happy to continue using it in the VOIP socket in the router then yes, you can take them out, but only the sockets and cables to the sockets. I have to admit I am cringing saying even that because people can easily mistake cables that are actually doing something for those that are not. Make sure you leave the socket that the router is plugged into, I assume that is your master socket? If it is not be very careful and keep checking your connection as you go. Just be careful.

I would imagine it’s similar to DLA or PIP in that you get a long form where you have to detail what care needs you have on your worst day which is rejected as standard and then taken to appeal when it usually passes.
I think you’d have to seriously consider the criteria, because, for example, you may need help dressing but because you don’t have help on a regular basis you may have developed some adaptations such as going without socks, slip on shoes, shirts with no buttons and therefore your first answer is that you can dress yourself fine, however were you to try and wear Gerald next doors usual attire you may struggle.

It's a bit irritating as the SS tills in WHS don't accept e-gc's - an SA has to type the numbers in. They do, however accept physical ones ok but these come in an email so are e-gc only.
Our store is iffy where I've found a couple of other stores more than happy to do it, so very SA dependent.
I keep thinking surely at some point they'll update the tills so that all the gc's will just scan but that's how it is at the mo

I dont have any knowledge of this benefit but would suggest you read the form online There are pages on the web which explain the criteria however I would look carefully at the timescales as I think some benefits are not available once in receipt of your oap
I helped my friend get DLA for her son The form was about 130 pages Most were irrelevant to his claim What he did supply in support of his claim were his medical records both from the GP and hospital It took time to get this paperwork so maybe something to think about now It wont go wrong
His claim was submitted via CAB who spent a half day with him discussing his needs and putting it into a format suitable for consideration He got it first time but it took 6 months HTH
Like lalli says we all adapt and it becomes "normal"

Hi Sleazbob! My Mother in Law applied and got this, she is 85 with severe Parkinsons the form is long and arduous, but she got someone from Age Uk to help fill it in I would recommend this approach they do not pay this out without a struggle, but hang on in there, it is worth having if you qualify. Thank you enterprise. The sockets are a bodge job, fitted years ago before we moved in and the guy was a BT engineer. 😳

If you can go cruising on your own sleazy would you really be eligible for AA?

When I broke a pelvis bone I managed far better on the cruise than I did when I got home!

Hope your OH is improving. x
Doesn't surprise me lol, took my OH 16 years to install a socket in the kitchen, which I then found out I could have installed in 30 minutes flat lol. Anyone in a trade that does anything in their own house tends to be in a rush lol.
OH is a bit up and down, which is quite normal with this ##### syndrome, but the speach therapist is also looking after his eating actually let him have a few small sips of a "liquid" today, and he is now allowed a few spoonfuls each day, being tube fed for a while until he gets back the full ability to eat.
