All our furniture was second hand when we moved here too. Even the carpet was disgusting but we left it down for years, even the kids remember it and we had them a good couple of years after we moved in, so they would have to be a good age to remember it.
I've seen some really quite rude requests on the local Olio. Things like just been allocated a place by the council but need all the furniture, it must be unused, preferably brand new. Also saw someone saying he had just come to this country and wanted to know where the house was he had been promised, oh, and could he have a new car please too.
Even one of the Big Issue sellers in town, got talking to her, she was Romanian (told me so) and came to this country expecting to be handed life on a plate, expected to be handed house keys when she got here (adverts in their papers apparently said so). And i have seen the "homeless" in the local town being dropped off by Mercedes in the morning holding their signs with suspiciously similar writing and messages.
I know there are people in need, and those are being deprived by people like this. The funny thing is in our local town they actively go around the "homeless" and offer them shelter, and say a lot refuse, even had a photo of one that refused one time. A lot of people commented that that was one of the ones they see regularly being dropped off by Mercedes.
Sorry, rant over.
The reply was “ cash only”
I politely declined. 10 mins later saw him further up the road with his 'homeless' sign.
