I never thought I’d want to retire but Covid increased my workload and a new unsympathetic boss meant that suddenly I wasn’t enjoying work. I took a month’s unpaid leave as I was almost burnt out and then decided to retire. (Boss: ‘oh, I thought you’d ask to work part time.’ I just stopped myself retorting that he’d still expect the same amount of work to be done!) I have never looked back. I took to retirement like a duck to water, and that’s without a beautiful grandchild to play with!
My DB said to me, why don't you go part time - err, no thanks. I felt similarly I'd be expected to do the same amount of work in a shorter week but more importantly we wanted to travel more and if you're part time you still only get 6 weeks holiday even if you can eke it out a bit with TOIL and having just had a month in Greece and Turkiye we couldn't have done that if I'd still been working.
Also as Mrs Mac rightly says you can go whenever without having to fit in around anyone or book time off, plus it's cheaper to go midweek - we're flying Thurs to Thurs this week and it's way cheaper than a weekend

I have said before I have had 2 reverse shoulder ops (both shoulders, not 2 on one) and it has been brilliant I know we are all different, but thought positive comments might help you decide Sleazy
BTW my DD informs me that the average life expectancy after retiring is eight years! don't leave it too late I must be on borrowed time having had 20 years so far
Can't quite believe it but I can see some blue sky and <drum roll>...sun! Such a welcome change from day after endless day of the grey blanket of low cloud. Couldn't manage to do it at the weekend though which would have been nice. Hope everyone had an enjoyable one though.
Lovely pic of your new grandson, TM. Does he have a name yet? I hope you have been availing yourself of lots of cuddles with the little one.
Hope all are well and happy, but hugs to those who might be struggling with things or worried about loved ones.

have a good day all LJx
Life expectancy at the moment is 78 for men and 82 for women, but the important thing is quality of life. Mum was only 71 when she died but she’d had 10+ years of sciatica and arthritis that meant she went from very active to housebound by the time she was in her 60s. You never know when your health is going to go

Not sure where she gets that info from lol, according to Forbes - on average, a 65 year old retiree will live 20 more years, but there's a 1 in 20 chance of living 30 more years, or or a 1 in 4 chance of living 10 years or less.

I wonder if it considers the whole population, not just those who’ve reached retirement age. Possibly worldwide too?

And there was me planning on going next year at 55 (only remotely possible because of the help of the elite) but if that is going to condemn me to only live to 63, perhaps I should work a bit longer....
I have also taken some of my retirement 'early' by working between 60% and 90% the last decade or so to have more time with my kids while they still vaguely wanted to spend time with me - encouraged by the government who made it very unfriendly for me to earn more than 50k. Govt changes will also mean that my after tax earnings go down by 10k (25%) from next May so again it makes stopping a very easy decision.

I think that It's 8 years this month since I was 'forcibly' retired by the bar stewards, which means that I should start saying 'Adieu' ...
Just popping in to say I must have missed the birth but what an adorable chap....
TM you need to give up work and become a full time nanna (life opportunities like that don't come along often enough) ...that's all I have to say...apart from I'm struggling with a kidney infection and hoping to be better for next week....

Life is a strange thing, just when you think you've learned how to use it, it's gone
Gorgeous sunshine, feeling very blessed to share it with my elite family and more blessed to see TMs new baby. Retirement…. When they kicked me hard and forced it upon me 12 or more years early I totally panicked as it wasn’t something I’d planned and financially wasn’t in a good place. Someone smiled down on me as it all resolved itself and we have a nice nest egg for emergencies and both happy with our incomes which pay the bills and with care pay for our holidays and social events. I did miss my work family at first but most turned out to be fair weather friends a It was like a bereavement to not go and share chats and coffee and help each other in general and the time void was weird but you soon adapt. I urge everyone who hasn’t done so to get a retirement forecast if you have a private pension as it’s free to ask once a year x
Suggestions please for a elite price hotel near Manchester 02 arena. Or maybe a hotel near with easy bus/tram/taxi transfer. Was looking at Travelodge near to the 02 last week but it's gone up £££😕.

TM you know my answer to your question....do it 😂 I'll be honest I wouldn't want to be at home 7 days a week but I am only 51. I love my two days, it gives me five days off which I fill to capacity and each week I have the cheek on a Wednesday to think...I can't believe I've got to go to work tomorrow 😆 I understand what people are saying about going part time in your own job but maybe you could get a different part time job....I can highly recommend working in a jewellers haha. Beautiful pic of dgs, he's adorable, make the most of everyday xx

Is there anything on Wowcher. The Midland in the city centre always seems to be advertised on their emails.
I hope your doing ok as well Enterprise. Sounds like your hubby is improving which is wonderful.
I guess we never think of the "in sickness and in health" when we got married.
I always say you don't know your married *Civil partnership, long term relationship etc till something bad happens. Then the relationship is tested to the max.
In speaking of long term, I keep telling Tigers mum she needs to marry her partner. Theyve been together 25 years. Gonna be a legal nightmare if one of them passes. Not married , no POA and no wills. He's got daughter from previous marriage. Any funds are gonna go in that direction.
I know it sounds a little clinical of me, but you've got to be real as well. Found out in-laws got POA finally but named someone other than hubby as POA. probably one of the MIL sisters. MIL says don't let them put me in care home X. I won't have a say for sure.
Anyway a little deep for a Sunday morning. Thanks for breakfast 😋
We can collect tiger and OH on our eloping bus tour x
