Despite studying French, German and Spanish, I don't think I could understand/say more than a few odd words. 

I can count to 10 in Japanese only because it was a fun thing to do with the kids.  I have a few words of Thai but very basic. 

Despite never learning any east European languages, I have heard that much spoke (and then translated by an interpreter), that I can understand a significant proportion (and realise that the interpreters are not always impartial in their translation).   

DS1 stopped studying languages at 14, but he can speak several languages from the middle and far east really well... when he is the UK, he always responds to people who are speaking in different languages to say negative things... the look of their faces is usually priceless! 

Everything crossed for you, Sarah. You really deserve for it all to go smoothly now after all you have already been through in your house moving saga!

It’s a similar issue with reading. Why are we forcing 4&5 year olds to spend several hours a day on phonics, reading aloud, reading at home, reading boring boring books and nonsense words and then doing endless sheets of swirls and lines and repeating the same letter over and over again. If you ever wanted to make a child detest reading and writing then it’s the perfect way to go about it.

Providing they aren’t already in isolation for wearing black socks instead of white ones or a shirt with two buttons undone instead of one or having a shoe with gold buckles instead of bronze 🙄

Anyway, I’ll put my soapbox away and duck back into my cave.

I do wonder whether art ability is partly due to exposure to a variety of techniques, mediums and practice along with willingness and ability.

This is after discovering recently that people who are tone deaf can be taught perfect pitch and that it’s more of a benefit to have an early exposure to a variety of sources of music/arts etc that whether you are musical/artistic rather than any genetic component.

As well as research showing children need to be exposed to a variety of sound before age 6 in order to be able to replicate sounds like the rolling r’s and that language acquisition is different for people learning pre and post age 7-8. Not sure if it’s due to the difference in teaching or the likelihood of people with dual nationalities to be learning the second language in a country that teaches the second language as a matter of habit.

And then we move on to sports and physical endeavours

Hello from a cold and wet east midlands I hope all are as well as can be. I've chased everyone for weeks apart from our solicitor must say shes amazing, and finaly everything was ready for last Thursday, our buyers solicitor still stalling 😡 then builders went early friday so again couldn't exchange. Hubby got a call at 12 this morning we can get the 25th as we had been trying for, call our mover who has the date Friday what a schock someone just booked it they have 28th oh but other 2 can't do it, dispite mucking us about for weeks now. I've spent the day chasing the unattainable, Hubby told solicitor to go ahead with the 25th now I've got to pray for a miracle I can get a reputable company, we are away to Norfolk Sunday and everything needs to be done & packed as back the night b4 we move. I have lumps of hair falling out im so stressed, I swear this has been the most horrible experience ever. Thank god for running as punching someone or something would hurt more lol. Sue I have everything crossed for u, glad your hubbys out of ic enterprise, hugs and more hugs to all. Xxx
