Morning. Will need lots of coffee. Love Island started last night so was up late. Couldn't sleep and now awake with headache. I think from clenching jaw. Stress innit.
My room feels cold. Need a wee so might have a look in a sec at temp. Says - 2 outside on app. But going to - 4 later this morning. With all that water about its going to be lethal. Glad not working today.
so the one controlling the circuit trips fully and the wider (is that the RCD) goes half way. So both need resetting.
He agrees that if you have damp around a socket that would cause it, or a loose connection to a socket but the other thing he asked is has anyone put up a picture recently? If they've put a pin through a cable he said that would also cause it. He also said the circuit should be on a 32amp breaker unless it's a radial circuit but I think I've read somewhere you saying it is a radial. Sorry I've not helped hope you get it sorted later.

Please thank him. Only pictures I’ve put up have been with super grip Velcro stuff!
Have you had any plastering done recently Silvercar? We had a day of this happening when our hall, stairs and landing were plastered in the summer but it stopped as the plaster started to dry.

No plastering.
the only remotely interesting electric thing is the fitting of a car charger, but that was months ago and we successfully used it when the circuit concerned was down.
OH reckons we must have damp coming in through our solid walls somewhere. not helped that the sockets in a couple of rooms are fitted in the skirting board rather than higher up.

Good morning all, the "warmer" outside thermometer at the moment says -7.1°C
Thank you for the cuppa Sleazy/Roma, not sure which one I grabbed!
As for inside temperature, the kitchen is on 15°, the bathroom was on 10.7° and the bedroom was on around 14°! We have warm air heating and there is no vent in the bathroom so takes a while to warm up (unless OH has a shower!).
No way I am going cycling today, there will definitely still be standing water around that will have turned into ice. The stupid thing is we have just had a road cleaner around, sincerely hope he had his water turned off!
The friend I normally meet elsewhere to go shopping is coming round to ours this morning so I won't be going out even on foot until after about 11:30, should be above zero by then.
Good news about your mum having enough confidence to try a couple of steps Sue, terrifying but it means she is getting stronger and she knows what she can manage
RT "might" surprise everyone when he moves out Houseelf, stranger things have happened . Is it any easier to stop worrying about them when they move out but are not "yours"?
Think I shall put a stew in the slow cooker today, seems like a stew and dumplings kind of day.
Really grateful for all your help, bank account electric cover now dumped us as it is no longer an emergency, so I am on my own penny. could I ask any experts to look at the new picture I’ve put on here:

Seems damp is coming in, could that be the problem?
Not an expert, but others do seem to think damp could be the issue. There's some lumpy bumpy plastering there 🙈 or is it an outbuilding so a bit rough and ready?
It's a bit too chunky for me as I like to drink my coffee from a china mug but thank you for thinking of me
🥰
Can't even drink in Costa or Starbucks. My Gran used the 1960s glass and plastic camping cups for the same reason. 😁
Thank you for the good wishes. She will be fine, bit of a relief in a way it's been going on so long. Poor parents have been through the mill. Soon be Summer. 🌞
Are we all looking at silvers sockets 🤔. Does certainly look like damp to me on that plaster, hope that's not a professional plasters work😱. What's on the other side of the wall? Is the room heated and ventilated well?

We had electrics tripping several years back and ours was actually due to condensation in the cold weather. The electric cables were originally run through metal pipes in the loft and condensation was running through to the light switches upstairs and tripping everything. It was always blamed on me ironing upstairs but it was actually the light being on in the bedroom where there was actually water/condensation that had run down to the switch.
We didn’t have it when we first moved in as the guy had boarded out (badly) the loft but Mr TS had to remove this as it was not allowing the roof trusses to breathe as he had nailed straight to them. We insulated over the ceilings but gradually as he started to remove the plasterboard we started to have the problem because the pipes carrying the cables were getting colder so condensation was forming. Actually took couple of years to work it out because most of year it was fine.
Our electrician rewired the whole upstairs removing the metal conduit I think it was called never had a problem since.
It doesn't look as bad as the photos make it appear. It is an old 1930s house, the walls aren't perfectly smooth! Made worse by a couple of previous repairs.
Will try and take a better picture. Anyway, it is usually hidden behind a unit! I just want it made safe and working!
