But you see your posts surely? Anyway, I think this conversation has run its course. Take from it what you wish, but I need to have a wind down from work now as the first half of the week is always very long and stressful. Need to find a film to watch.
I can recommend your honour on nowtv although its a series not a film lol x

Life is a strange thing, just when you think you've learned how to use it, it's gone
Well there goes coffee and cake for some at John Lewis
The eight shops set to close comprise four At Home stores in Ashford, Basingstoke, Chester and Tunbridge Wells and four department stores in Aberdeen, Peterborough, Sheffield and York.
Did the athome stores have a cafe?
The demise of the high street continues at pace

My ebay buyer wanted the item by Friday, so rather than post via my usual method of Second Class Small Parcel, I looked at the options via Royal Mail website and I offered them Royal Mail Tracked 24, to get there next business day. Then thought I would do them a favour and create a custom listing, specifying that postage option, well that was not straightforward! But I did it. They purchased item and paid. Went to print postage label from ebay listing, my Tracked 24 was not an option! Why not? So went via Royal Mail website and put in all details manually ππ, then noticed dropping off at a Post Office was NOT an option! What? Only at Delivery Office or CSPs. What? Delivery Office in one direction open mornings only, Delivery Office in other direction closed on Wednesdays! Groan. CSPs? Dunno, could not find one near me π. But wait, you can drop it in a Parcel Post Box. Finding one of those is quite a job, if you have not looked for one before! There is an online map, and you have to look for a certain shape of postbox, one that can take a Small Parcel. So just posted my parcel into one of them, there are not many near where I live! And now I have no proof of posting π. Fingers crossed it gets there tomorrow. Will not be offering that service again! I think I am confused with thinking the Post Office and Royal Mail are the same thing π¬.
If anybody would like to see something out of the usual, it appears thereβs a boat stuck in the Suez Canal.
Yes saw that on the news this morning! Quite something! They are hoping digging out the bank plus high tide may help. If not, they will have to unload some cargo. It is a mahoosive ship!!
It is literally blocking the canal, sideways π’ π.
from another perspective you could look at it that everything is being put upstairs which may end up that this thread becomes less important. By putting everything in its own place then you do run the risk that this one loses it universal quality and just becomes the one where people come to say good morning at best or at worst case scenario bypass it altogether.
Many people still interact with this thread just for the social aspect ...posting things that are not shopping related which is a very important gelling factor for the community....if you start to have multiple threads upstairs you do then run the risk that people just focus on the couple of threads they are interested in and dont interact so much here.
That may seem that you are therefore trying to create a board of for reference threads and losing the mass thread here.
I totally understand that some people dont want to read the mundane stuff...but dont forget that to some thats little interactions that they have with others...I'm not singling out in particular...but snaps daily posts are refreshing and a one liner from her can be so uplifting ...and mrs mac with her daily check in just may give a sense of perspective to a few ...mudane to some doesnt mean mundane to all.
The talk was recently that savvy might return....does that mean for example that because he produces his lists of info on stock levels that they would be best based upstairs? Should we (dare I mention the word) have a prolific thread or one for posting sopost deals.what about the things like mystery wine deals.....my point being if you split things up too much you start to miss the more everyday general banter of here....or again should perhaps we have a "good morning all thread"...and yes I am saying that a little tongue in cheek but as moderators of the forum you do need to consider the impact of splitting things too much. All you could end up doing is creating something that moves to fast in subsections upstairs for anyone to actually feel part of the community that is the elite.
The daily quiz is surely a contender for an upstairs slot....but it also generates banter and chat here.
You need a film or a series to watch...lets have a thread upstairs!...again good idea if you keep it solely to things to watch ...but where do you put the chat about those things?...surely the debate about it comes down here....
People often ask for recipies twinks and things...theres a thread upstairs...but is it really used...i dont think so...when curly wanted to know what to do with butter beans she asked here...not on the recipe thread...same too if i remember correctly with HG who asked for vege/vegan suggestions.....there are very few recopies upstairs compared to the amount of times food is discussed here.
TM did her monthly challenge in an effort to get us interactng...a real success but in theory thats something else that could easily been taken upstairs....lalipickle took her eating out of the cupboards upstairs but personally I would have loved that one down here to chat about...we could all do with clearing out every now and again and the old frugal Feb used to be a challenge lots embraced on MSE without the need for it to be placed upstairs.
Again at the risk of naming ..bubbs has the slimming thread upstairs..its become more than slimming to those who post there possibly because that little community chat amongst themselves...we could end up for example lose those posters from the main thread simply because they interact solely in their little bubble up there....often someone says "oh i havent seen(insert name)...it could be that the response to that becomes..."they feel more comfortable now posting only in the(insert name of )thread...we dont want that to be the case surely?...we may end up never seeing JTS because he posts in cheltenham or whatever its called....or Di because she posts in morrisons glitches....I hope you see my point.
Food for thought or devils advocate...or whatever you want to call my post...but I do urge moderators to consider all the options and how people use the elite before you split it up so much that we lose interaction too much.
Apologies for the long post and at the risk of derailing the thread here if anyone wants to comment further with me on this...shall we go to PM
Great post Strawbs and I'm glad you reconsidered re posting on here, everyones opinion is valid and welcomed....
the more the merrier
I understand your point about sharing but i also agree that the upstairs is a great idea....I also feel everybody has the right to free speech....here that is not the case in fact not at mse either as some poohead decided i shouldn't be there. The problem here is is that if you have differing opinions to the mod then your posts get deleted....isn't that right anon?
Mark 8:36 : For what does it benefit a person to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? Matthew 7:15 : "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheepβs clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves" Isaiah 9:2 : In a land of deep darkness a light will shine.
FWIW I think it is fine as it is. It's worked well that way for a long time and I don't think 'it's broke' so no need to fix it.
I'm hearing what you say Foxy...and I agree if something isn't broke it doesn't need fixing...but you do sometimes need to adapt things or generally maintain them.
Currently there are 6 or maybe even 7 pages of threads upstairs...most of which are not used. They potentially need streamlining a little to see if they are still current or can be culled.
If there were less threads upstairs, but more targeted ones it may make it more user friendly for all both in terms of ease to find and generally getting everyone to explore up there rather than with each random idea to move something upstairs then generates a thread for discussion there.
Strawberri, I always use this link & easily find which threads I want to catch up on

lol I've started so many series on netflix and never finished them and start them again a few months later and ended up loving them!

Thank you for the morning brew and what an amazing cake to wake up to.
Have been having some great days in the garden getting all those little jobs done. Cabbage, Broccoli, lettuce, Rocket, Radish, Kalette and numerous other bits and bobs have poked their heads out the tops of the compost. Garden is bursting into life now.
Scarified the back lawn and given it a good seeing to yesterday. The front lawn is going to have it today.
Have great days everyone.
Not sure what our Emerald will make of that. You'll make her day.

Yes I am on series 5 of this is us on Prime & still not sure why I'm watching it....
Auto. I think your post towards Anon is unfair. These guys have kept this place open and often posts are lifted out to stop infighting.
I really wonder how many people would speak as they post face to face?
Locarr I love a good discussion as much as the next person but you do have a knack of chucking in the dynamite, lighting the match and sit back and watch the place burn.
We best be careful we don't lose the place altogether. People only tolerate stuff for so long.
The saying is, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. It ain't broke!
So do you wait for something to break before you fix it Josie....or do you do regular maintaninance to ensure it lasts longer?
My marriage aint broke but we need to work on it now and again to make sure it continues in a healthy manner...
My car has a service reasonably regularly to check how things are ...I would rather know that something might need attention rather than breaking down on a dark country lane late at night.....
Sometimes people choose to ignore the warning signs and suddenly things break beyond repair...then you have to start anew. Maybe if a few disruptive posters had reined it in on MSE all those years ago we wouldn't have needed to decamp here.
Paint or decoration in your home hardly ever breaks ....but occasionally you surely decide to spruce something up or paint something bright rather than conventional magnolia.....
We all lost the ability to post in a very comfortable space which many at the time were very happy with. Many of us didnt consider that mse was broke but mse decided they would evict us, essentially making the break for us so we had to set up again....many didnt come with us for whatever reason.
Sometimes you just need to re evaluate what you offer,in terms of keeping the regulars happy but also striving to recruit new blood.
It aint broke yet....but do you want to wait for the fallout when it does....or help to create something that suits everyone without the need to salvage something from the ruins
I assume DM is the controller of the board so ultimately the decision on way forward is his....today I hope will show him there are several sides to this...its not just about who shouts loudest or whats been in place longest....its how we all get the maxumum out of the space we all frequent.

Sorry Strawberri, I disagree - I find this forum much friendlier (generally ) than mse. I know I don't post a lot on here but very rarely posted over there as I found it a little intimidating x

Its subjective...and to a point what you feel comfortable with...there are always going to be undercurrent running though any group of people simply because not everyone thinks the same...or indeed should they... I was never comfortable in mumsnet...far too intimidating for me..
I'm well aware there are a few on here who dont like me...i can live with that...same as in the real world ...you pick and choose your friends and they evolve too....what I think we do need to work on here is appreciating that people can have differing views but you shouldnt be any less respectful of those views
The reality is...put me and a few of the others here in whatever forum you want and I guess we'll never see eye to eye...Thats life...hopefully as i keep saying we can at least be civil and not offend intentionally.
I am always happy to apologise if I offend...life is too short to hold grudges. Not all people are so receptive or recip

I think one of the problems with our old thread at MSE was the number of "multiple personalities", who loved to stir up the regulars. That's why I didn't really post much over there, because it pissed me off. With the size of MSE forums the powers that be over there had neither the time or the inclination to weed them out. So in the end they just pulled down the shutters. With this place being a nice comfy size it's easier for Dave and the mod team to clock this kind of behaviour, or even better to prevent people from making alter egos in the first place. Admin approval of new registrations is a wonderful tool.
I like the way things are organised here, and keeping certain stuff away from spiders, bots and other creepy crawlies is for the best.
