I have a quandary. I have a small bed sit and have lent it to a friend who is only here for a month or two to work. I originally said just pay electric but we’ve checked and two days running the electric radiator has been on 24/7 and it’s about £40 a week to run 2.5kw plus lights and cooking , maybe more. He only gave us £10 a week in the summer but this is entirely different now that it’s cold and I think a bit disrespectful. How should I tell him to a) switch it off B) pay more. I’m a very fair person, generous to a fault - the fault being I always end up out of pocket and I know he isn’t well off but everyone seems to think I’m rich and takes the pee . Sorry to rant x
Agree with what Mrsmac says. For future stays make sure you ask for a weekly rate + bills so they might think twice about leaving the radiator on 24/7. It's easy to forget that electricity is often more expensive than gas these days.
How long ago was it filmed (the series, not the factual program) as at the end of episode one, the car has a tax disk in is window.
It is dated 2019/20 according to IMDB - it was originally on Alibi and the BBC decided to bring it to a wider audience (great decision as I missed it on there - I didn't realise Alibi broadcast origional content, only repeats . Important lesson there as we could be missing some gems!).
Lots of people left the tax disc in as a momento (or are just too lazy to remove it as it will mean cleaning the tax disc holder circle off the windscreen ).

It clicked to me when I watched the end, it was set in 2008 I believe, so thats why there was a tax disc.
A friend of mine has £18 000 on hold with TUI, because a holiday was cancelled due to corona, and tui told them they had to move it to this year, as TUI wouldnt refund them.
Tui have now wrote them a letter and said they could have had the money back but the operator told them the wrong information.
They really dont feel comfortable going on this holiday now, which is in a few months time, as they dont think things are going to be normal by then.
They want to write to the likes of rip off britain, mse, anyone else who could try to get them the money back.
JTS I get sick of tea cakes , hot cross buns and malt bread etc lol . Sometimes I just have whatever I feel like eg a kitkat. Ideally I would like a nice coffee and a piece of homemade coffee cake 😋
Anyone got a recommendation for anti fog individual wipes for using to stop masks steaming up please for a friend. She s got no interest on going on the internet but is happy to ask folk to sort things for her lol

Sorry, I don't understand - if TUI have now said they can now have the refund, reply to them to yes please process the refund?
Or am I missing something? If they have paid TUI, then the contract is with TUI and TUI have to sort this? If they were unable to provide the holiday at the time as planned, then I understand consumer law is they should refund in full as they have not provided the service contracted (I appreciate the travel/tourism industry has been hammered and it is not their fault).

If it was a month or two then this has dragged on as summer was at least four months ago? It sounds like time to renegotiate?
If there is a direct bill associated with the bedsit, couldn't you just show them the electricity bill and say unfortunately the £10 per week doesn't cover it and the agreement was they would pay the electric? They really are onto a winner if only paying £10 a week so you are not being unreasonable. They aren't necessarily abusing the deal by having the heating on longer as it has been blinking freezing, but do need to appreciate it needs paying for.

Tell your friend to try this. Fold a tissue up, put it on her nose, put the mask on top of it and then tighten the nose clip on the mask over the tissue.

My kids would have absolutely no clue what their electricity (and water) use might be costing. Seems to me best that you mention straight away as they may not be aware what sort of bill they are running up.
Not sure best way to go about it but as they are living rent free they are definitely winning. More difficult because its a friend and I have the feeling that a direct approach may be required but hard
Do you see the person often enough to say your bills have gone up so much with the cold spell and hope they realise what you are trying to say or next time they offer you the money just say oh that was the summer rate I thought you knew that
They are working so have money coming in It could just be case of sheer ignorance about utilities but still needs to be sorted
Good luck
I’m going to let ole grumpy do the talk. Hopefully it will be better coming from him as there is no need for a heater on 24/7 as it’s a warm place anyway . Grumpy just called and said our guest has brought along an industrial raclette grill which is taking up a whole worktop it’s so long ...., hope it’s safe
Your friends really deserve better, why are they travelling with TUI. I'm not being funny, but if you are spending £18k on a holiday you should be using niche companies rather than TUI who cater for the mass market. You can't expect the standards of service you should be getting at that price from a company that specialise in £299 deals to the Canaries!

Is there not access to kitchen facilities? Pretty sure this wouldn't be allowed in a commercial let.

There’s a hob, microwave , toaster, kettle a large George foreman and of course sink etc - no oven but we offered a tabletop one which was declined . I can’t see what difference to a George Foreman except size ! This person isn’t young btw , just immature imho x

That must have been one hell of a holiday.
Fred Olsen sent me a brochure today for a South American circumnavigation including the fjords of Chile and calling in enroute at Spain, Portugal and the Azores for 74 days in January 2022 which was coming in at a base price of £16,600 an inside cabins and it also included a little onboard credit.

Well, this has been a very rubbish week. Work descended into chaos with more WFH but no specific office rota, I came home one day to a note through the door from a lovely neighbour who’d witnessed a package being stolen off my doorstep which she called the police about and arrived shortly after I’d got home, raging toothache for about 4 days which turned into an emergency extraction yesterday and a constant fight against rats in my chicken run and general feeling of meh-ness. My diet has gone out the window!
Well done to Maz’s son 👏
Happy birthday to Di and Finlay and anyone else I might have missed 🥳

Ah dizzy, sorry to hear you're having a carp time of it. It was So much easier in the summer with the great weather etc. We had rats in our chicken run and I'm afraid the only way we solvedbit was 🔫🔫🔫 but as yours is on an allotmentI don'tsuppose it's an option. Maybe you could try traps, I hope you have more success than dh has with ours. I hardly dare tempt fate but we haven't seen one for ages. Tomorrow is another day and I hope you're feeling better x

If this is your Spanish friend I bet he's frozen over here!
Atlas are still refusing to do anything about collecting the unexpected package that Hermes delivered recently. They just keep saying that they do not deal with Hermes collections - even though they use them for deliveries. This is the package that was delivered 2/3 weeks late, after Atlas had decided that Hermes lost the package and issued me with a full refund.. They did not offer replacements - which I would have refused anyway as the goods were Christmas presents and it was far too late. The refund was made and I considered the matter closed - and then a few days after I got the refund a pacakage arrived.
I told Atlas as I felt that was the honest thing to do (as I had not paid for the items) and asked them to arrange a collection. They have refused and said I have to sort out a collection myself (and pay for it !) I am not prepared to get involved - unless they will agree to pay for a collection from my home (which they don't want to do.Now they say that they will wave the 30 days return window and that I must store the package until the Covid crisis is over and send it back then ! And they still expect me to pay for the return. I should bloomin well cocoa ! I have now told them that if they do not arrange a collection from my house by 31 January 2021 I will donate the package to the Salvation Army. And I have again forbidden them to take any money from my card as these are unsolicited goods.

They have admitted that they should have had a refund in the first place, but the operator that they spoke to in the first place told them they couldnt so they moved the holiday to this year, even though they really didnt want to, but the operator was adamant they couldnt get a refund.
But since then they have wrote to TUI and they have said that they should have been offered a refund but as its gone on too long now basically tough they have got to have the holiday this year.
Well I got £50 from ERNIE this month, but over the course of 2020 I lost almost exactly the same amount in the FTSE 250 investment I made at the end of last January. I'm actually fairly 'happy' because earlier in the year I would have been down £1000. Anyway, as things are going I've now sold the FTSE 250 shares and still holding the others atm.
