As we have a Bulb thread I thought we might also have an Octupus Energy thread. Using the code means we both get £50 each. It literally takes less than 10 minutes to see if they work out cheaper than your current supplier and then if they are, to switch if they are

Previously on Bulb for 2 years but the tariff rates are going up from October 18th and even though I am well in credit they want me to increase my direct debit by £20 - the cheek of it. We are unusual in that we dont have gas and we are still on the ancient Economy 7 - paying for 2 different rates of electricity day and a night rate. I have a total figure for usage over a year, divided by day and night rate it works out at 30% day and 70% night rate. It involves some complicated maths when I come to do comparison checks Bulb are going up to 19.299 day rate, 10.571 for night and the standing charge 19.210. Octopus are 17.808 day, night 9.975 and standing charge 19.541 so the tariffs are cheaper but the standing charge slightly higher but it works out cheaper altogether. That is if our usage stays the same - I have OH home now and the kettle is half a dozen times a day

If anyone is considering switching the ref credit now £100 which makes a big difference to anyones calculations. Also choose the fixed rate tariff as Octupus is increasing its rates as ell in November.
October 8th is World Octopus Day. For EIGHT DAYS ONLY, we're doubling referral credit for new customers, so friends of Octopus customers get £100 (and they get £50, too!)
From the 8th October 2020 until 15th October 2020, Octopus Energy customers will be able to offer their friends or family £100 to encourage them to go green on World Octopus Day!
How does it work? Any new customer that signs their home up to Octopus via a customer referral link between 8th and 15th October will automatically get double the referral reward when they fully switch over.

I logged onto m new Octupus account and up popped a page where you can claim an Octupus or a tree
These are the rules; Giant cuddly Octopuses are not actual octopuses. They're toys. If you'd prefer, you can elect to have a tree planted instead of a giant cuddly Octopus. We ❤ trees too. We won't charge you for postage (or it wouldn't be free) and we accept no responsibility for lost or damaged mail. We can't guarantee octopuses will fit in all mailboxes. They're pretty big octopuses, after all. Octopuses are supplied by Custom Toys UK, a member of the British Toy and Hobby association (BTHA). They are made in Guandong, China, in accordance with the ICTI Ethical Toy Programme Certification and subject to regular factory audits (WCA and/or BSCI) from a reputable source with a presence in the European Union such as Intertek. Not available with any other offer. One octopus per home (wasn't that an Ed Miliband policy?).
