Just had another strange lunch. I made a salad and oven baked some of those Brew Cheese things to go with it. I've got a carrot and coriander soup on the go and just froze 4 bananas to make John Torodes banana ice cream. Remember to peel them before you freeze them. When they are frozen stick them in the Nutribullit with some natural yoghurt and a squeeze of honey or golden syrup. I'll tell you what it's like later😊
I understand , but your situation is exactly what that service is for and like you I have registered just in case, I mentioned the delivery priority as after a few weeks of the delivery box you will be desperate for a bit of variety 🙂
Good morning, had an awful night my fur baby had an emergency op, he had a twisted gut which we caught early but his spleen couldn't be saved, had two hours sleep but still wired, the vet phoned at two this morning after the op but he was still borderline she called this morning to say he was nice and bright and had been out for a walk in the yard, we hope he gets home later today.
Oh poor Max. My goodness you were lucky izzy to be awake and really lucky to find a vet in the current circumstances. What will be the effects of being " spleenless"?
pleased to hear he's on the mend😊😊
Our vets are open for emergencies, it's a rural practice so they are still needed on farms and Croft's, really he should be fine without the spleen, it's taking it slow for now feeding is a spoonful of tinned meat at a time, he is sleeping now but covered in blood, he lost a good bit in the operation won't be showering for a while though maybe try and sponge him in a few days.
And am I being bitchy wondering just how many in the queue were second home owners/people out on their jollies ! I haven't been out for shopping since the Monday before last and plan on doing a Lidl run next Tuesday. I am scared stiff if I am honest.
Some of you may remember my DH had several TIA's back last year and, after a year of no problems, he had 5 or 6 ' funny turns' yesterday. Partly confusion/memory problems but also a couple of 'absences'. The Specialist last year told me not to worry if he had 1 or 2 that lasted only 20/30 minutes but that I should call an ambulance if they escalated or got worse. In ordinary circumstances I would have dialed 999 - but I was afraid to do so yesterday as they would want to admit him to Treliske and I am well aware that the chances of him catching the covid virus down there are pretty high. Also, I would be very restricted as regards visiting him. On balance I decided to keep him home and ride it out.
He seems much better today - not quite back to normal as his memory is glitching and he is slightly confused at times. They were not entirely sure last year that it was TIA's and the neurologist did mention that it might be temporal lobe epilepsy so I am wondering now if the 'absences' might be pointing to that. So far today he has had one more period of confusion/memory problem. I think I am going to have to try to ride it out until Tuesday when I can contact the GP although I did wonder if I called 999 I might be able to get a paramedic here who could at least check him over.
tbw I feel for you, having dh so vulnerable is a worry, maybe you should phone for advice , is he on aspirin or such like, the medics could still be helpful without him going to hospital .
Thank you Izzy - yes, after last year's carry on they put him on clopiderol (blood thinner like aspirin) and atorvastatin ie they decided to treat it as TIA's even though they were not certain ( but they couldn't find anything else). The brain wave scans did indicate a slight abnormality that the neurlogist though might be a predisposition to epilepsy - but it was all very vague. The Elder care specialist said he did not have Alzeimers but she did mention a possibility of vascular dementia. Again all very vague and unsure. I guess that, as he is 90 next month this is all just general aging and, so long as he is OK most of the time I am just going to have to look after him a bit like a child when he is unsteady/muddled.
At least he has stopped moaning that I won't let him drive - we changed cars last month and he absolutely HATES the electronic handbrake ! He just can't get used to it and he has told me just what I can do with the car - even cusses it loadly everytime he walks past it . Life in the old dog yet. I will talk to the GP when they re-open.

Awww, big him a big (but gentle) cuddle from me. Well I said I wasnt going to (to myself, as I wanted to go on holiday this xmas) but I have been on the websites looking for a new baby. Put a few feelers out, but not in a rush. (Even if I was, cant do anything about it at the moment anyway )
On the plus side I had an email from the holiday company this afternoon - I saw the header and though, oh not, what now! but then when I read it, it was much better news than I thought.
Firstly it said if they have to cancel holidays later in the year up to December 2020 they would give at least 28 days notice - hopefully this will become standard practice as I heard that P&O gave only a few weeks notice for the newest set of cancellations. Secondly now instead of having to pay final balances 90 days beforehand the final invoice day is 28 days before which means you will know for sure at that point 28 days before that you are paying in full for a holiday that is actually going to happen - it said to ignore any automatic reminders that came One less thing to stress about and again hopefully other companies will make this industry standard practice
Which holiday company was this please?
Fred Olsen - hopefully P&O and the others will follow suit.
We had our May trip to Noway cancelled - we would have been been in Oslo on Constitution day We are doing a circuit of Iceland in the autumn - notice the use of the verb "are" - I am still thinking positively and it will happen. One of the attractions is that we will go out of Liverpool which is about 45 mins on the train plus a taxi across the city - it makes for a very easy no-stress departure day and we still aim to be at the dock around midday.
Late September 2019 we went from Liverpool en route to Norway and it was such a stinking hot day they decided to have a rum punch party as we sailed out of Liverpool - not usually our sort of thing as we are quiet church mice but it really was such an amazing atmosphere. The rum punch flowed and we found that if you drank a couple there was a tiny bit of alcohol in them The good weather stayed with us until we went through the arctic circle FO suits us as the ships are small enough to go into the tiniest of ports and they get us to places we would not otherwise be able to see. They are not cheap though but we dont mind low grade cabins in bilge class.
I've heard good things about Cruise and Maritime and they also go from Liverpool.

I have been in tears for the past hour. For those who do not know, I have severe heart failure and I look after my 89 year old father who has has many strokes and mild COPD. The shielded list does not include us. I emailed my MSP on Tuesday (the deputy First Minister) morning about this and he replied within an hour and forwarded my email to the Health Secretary. I then received an email with a case number etc from the Scottish Government saying they were looking into it.
TODAY a gentleman came to my door with 5 bags of shopping for my dad and I.
The speed and kindness has overwhelmed me!
If you or a loved one is in difficulty PLEASE contact your MSP or MP and hopefully they will do as good a job for you as they did for me.
Is there no one near that could have helped. I am truly appalled that you were in this situation and am assuming you could not get online orders ? . Take care and stay safe
Understandably they have had to amend the format due to not being able to have a studio audience, but they need to refine it to ensure the key part of the format (engagement with the audience and audience challenging their views) is included. It doesn't work the same with reading out people's Tweets or even a vox pop question - they need to see if they can replicate the audience feeding in live and responding to what the panel members are saying.
Anon
Nah...it's not only the lack of audience for me Anon. I think FB is lightweight and just not thinking on her feet. There were so many missed opportunities last night to drill down for responses.
I agree - I don't find her as good in the role as David Dimbleby - big shoes to fill, but she seems to be more pantomime (when the audience is there, trying to get in witty comments) rather than serious and challenging.
The bigger error by the BBC was dropping This Week to replace it with Brexitcast and whatever the equivalent is now.
I was on the phone but still had to go out and see the “reason”. Blame JTS
I suggested hubby could make a scarecrow to pass his time. He has tried. In the van drivers seat he has built a new driver , complete with a ball head, hard hat , working hi viz. and he had turned the van so the “person” can see out

I managed to book an online delivery 3 days ago, for delivery 27th! My neighbour who would help has unfortunately broken his ankle a week ago. I just need to make sure I and my dad are on the list in case anything happens. I heard on the radio that Scotland is about 2 weeks behind London with the virus
We had a delivery from Asda today, about 3pm, wasn’t too impressed, most of the staple foods I ordered were ‘unavailable’ (turkey mince/veg/meat) I wish they’d just substitute. Ordered some sliced meat both packs dated today! An Easter egg packaging damaged/egg broken. Tried to ask for a refund on a few items, but getting this

Yes, I should have been going to S/ton tomorrow Still, another booked for July and one in October. May get one out of three.
BH that's good news hopefully you will get the letter now too, I didn't sign up for the food parcel s have dh and dd at home but I did ask to go on the home shopping priority list haven't heard from them yet but if need be I will try Asda again next week when they release the next lot of slots.
The supermarkets are supposed to be given access to those gov.uk lists. Might be worth double checking that you used the same email on both that site and Asda.co.uk account.
BH glad you got the help needed for you and your dad.
From our experience my OH got an email from the supermarkets saying that they have been given details by the government and saying that prioity for home delivery has been arranged and instructions on what to do. I also received an email saying something along the lines of "you or someone in your household is extremely vulnerable" . The supermarkets have been using their data base to match up details and to me seem to be using address and maybe name and not necessarily email address. Of course if not already their customer would use email registered with government.
We have managed to book a delivery for the end of next week which was the earliest around here.
I feel different parts of the UK are at different stages on this and the supermarkets are working their way through the information they have already on their data base and the details given by government for those that are not already their customers.
I hope that all the people that are shielding and the vulnerable get this service offered as soon as possible.
Morning all I too was flouncing around in a long cotton skirt yesterday. Was by accident. I reached into the drawers under my bed and pulled out what I thought was some cotton khaki coloured cropped trousers I have. Got to the bathroom and when I went to get dressed realised it was a the long cotton khaki coloured skirt. Havent worn a skirt for years so felt very summery founcing around the house in it yesterday haha. But felt awkward whenever I climbed the stairs as kept getting the skirt caught under my foot. So think it will be back to the usual trousers today haha.
On the plus side you have identified something you are not likely to wear again so you can put it into either the charity bag or the cloth recycling facility at the supermarket. And that will make a little space in the drawer Then you can have to look to see if there are any other skirts lurking that were long forgotten about.
I've pulled an orange long sleeved t-shirt out from the wardrobe this morning and its long past its best so that will be washed and bagged. I think by the end of this summer most leggings and baggy t-shirts will be bagged.
Mhoc, you are as daft as me. if you just pulled it out of the wardrobe it doesn't need washing, just bung it in the bag! I have just ironed a possibly 20 yr old T shirt that really is past it's best, too bad for CS bag, everytime I put it on I say I'll throw this out when I take it off....
Does anyone have a contact email for Royal Mail please? I am awaiting an item from ebay, I was given a tracking number after chasing it. The Ebay tracking just says tracking number issued, the Royal Mail tracking says "Sorry, we're currently unable to confirm the status of your item with reference XX . Please try again later" It was "sent" It was marked as posted on the 8th.
I posted an item Second Class Signed for at the end of March and it still hasn't arrived . Their site says there may be some delays due to staff illness etc, but 12 days . It is typical - I only used that as it was insured as this was an 3bay sale - fortunately the buyer can see it has been sent and is In Transit, but that doesn't make it any better when they bought it for a reason not expecting to wait weeks!

Posted an Easter card , 1st class, Tuesday, friend received it yesterday
ASDA queue was horrendous. Ended up in coop and came home. It's all so stressful 😵

BH so pleased you and your dad are getting the help you need.hopefully they will get you on the shielding list. I to am not on list but doctor thinks I should be and has signed me of work for a month so she can look into it. Less money but at least not on a till with no protection, and not as tired and breathless not working xx
Oh Rhosy It will do you good to have a month off, and spend family time and lambing I suppose. Yes, less money, but if this has taught us anything it is that money is not everything.
My grumps is on the list, but refuses to take advantage as he is generally fit .. and has me to do the shopping!

Its not that I am too scared to go shopping - when I do go I am very careful with wipes, sanitizer, gloves etc and strip clothes off, shower and spray items with dilute bleach. I am just very worried that something might slip through and infect DH - prostate cancer and nearly 90. People down here can sometimes be a bit too close and 'pushy' in supermarkets. I am generally scared at the long term implications - this bug is not going to go away, infections will almost certainly increase when lockdown ceases and knowing that by then there will hopefully be a bed/ventilator for me in Treliske does not really cheer me up !
Its so good that you are being looked after finally - just a pity that you had to have to go to such lengths before you got the help that you need. Have a look to see if you have got a local Nextdoor group or a local neighbourhood facebook group. There are quite a few people on furlough now and nothing to occupy themselves that are actively looking for people they can help.
On 2 of my groups people put messages about their elderly relatives - one was in Canada and one in Australia so they were too far away to be of any practical usage so they asked if anyone local could help. Within hours the aged relatives were on the local lists of vunerable people that might need a hand eg with shopping, dog walking etc
On an estate in our village they have a card system. They have a list of people who might need assistance - if all is OK and they dont need anything then a green card is put in the front window, a yellow card if the might need something but not desperate, maybe just a chat so someone will ring them up, for dire emergencies the red card is put up - then anyone walking the dogs or the toddlers will do a circuit and give people a wave and generally keep an eye out for the cards and check that all is well
That system sounds fantastic. I live in a square and we can all see each other over the grassy area in the middle. I am glad to say the 2 elderly that stay alone have frequent visits from their adult kids who leave shopping etc at their door.
I wish I could do more for others but realise my and my dad's health needs to take priority.
If anyone needs shower gel please message me as I have loads and can send it by Hermes as they can collect from my home address and then deliver. No payment required.
BH
You're a good 'un BH!! I too have loads of shower gel should anyone need.
Our local facebook said that nurses at our hospital needed hand cream, my neighbour is a theatre sister, ventilator trained nurse, so I asked her what they needed, oh no she said, we've got all we need! Like you I'm more than happy to help.

DW made it home safely from JA but is really struggling with being stack at home all the time. I am feeling very altruistic and wishing she was still with her mum....
