We had heard that there were stopping making it a week before, and tried to get an order in but nothing was available which is explained by the mass building company order.
You don't like in Yorkshire do you... I could keep DS2 busy for a few months!!
I’m afraid we’re in the deepest south of Essex, right near Southend . Loads of friends have work for him but he works six days a week so never gets to even do any of my jobs
Shawshank Green mile Stand by me Sixth sense Dirty dancing are my classics that I will watch over 🤔
I should admit to going to see Sixth sense with OH, I screamed throughout it... and kept jumping so much OH was trying to hold me hand down, resulting in my hand/arm being covered in bruises... the whole audience was more entertained by my horror and reaction than the film!
I've not been able to contribute in any meaningful way, so keep quiet, but I do read back regularly and feel that I am a small part of a very friendly and welcoming bunch of folks.
Could it be a rudbeckia? Not sure on that spelling. Never saw them in this colour before but the flowering pattern fits and it has drooping back petals like a rudbeckia
Never let the odds stop you from doing what you know in your heart you were meant to do
My Mum refused to have these food boxes from the council, even though she is 90 and sheilding .Said she could afford her own food, so would not have them on principle, even though it means me doing all her shopping and I am trying to keep away from the shops. Couldn't persude her is wasn't just about the ability to pay for the food, but to make life easier.
Interesting to know what is in them.
For my parents in law its simply a case that they spend nowhere near the delivery threshold cost wise for home delivery...and they cant afford to up their spend to around £30 a week and buy things that although would store they dont need....so for them the boxes have been the basis of a lifeline, but they are very repetative often with the same in each week. There are the basics of 2 loo rolls, coffee and tea sachets like the ones from hotel rooms,a couple of longlife milks,a packet of biscuits, porridge or occaisionally a different cereal, bolognaise sauce, tinned veg(although as previously mentioned thats been baked beans, kidney beans and butter beans) a loaf of bread, carton of juice a tin of ham and carrots and potatoes, usually 4 tins of heinz soup and this has been either vegetable or tomato...and a lynx shower gel.
Its a basis but not overly inspiring welcome yes but it does need topping up.As i said they are usually quite independent and self sufficient but shielding has and is making them both a lot less confident and in turn unwilling to ask for help from others...I'm amazed that a couple of weeks ago they slightly opened up to me and are now allowing me to bring a few extra bits and some much needed fruit and veg...they havent as yet dared speak to my OH and each time they do the front is put up that they are doing fine.
I'm hoping that soon FIL may be able to drive to his allotment without any garden at home hes really missing it.
Sue...like your mum I think they would love to be able to say they could manage without, but its becoming obvious that perhaps they do need more help than their pride would really like to admit
Honestly if anyone can come up with something recipe wise with the above ingredients then please chuck your ideas into the ring...they will be appreciated even if perhaps I think ive googled everything possible with whats available.
If you think my thoughts are crossing a little into the covid thread upstairs then I'm happy to accept suggestions there or indeed if someone thinks we could do with a lockdown recipe thread separately then lets do it.
I posted here as the main footfall is through here but if you'd rather not read my ramblings tell me to go upstairs..
Hi strawberri
I’m shielding myself although I’m fortunate to not have to ask for the food boxes. We can more than fill the minimum needs for an online shop.
I’m also volunteering as a telephone responder for the NHS and this is a common query from people living in their own. In our area we have quite a good number of places delivering smaller shops to people who don’t necessarily need a big shop. As far as I know most local councils have hubs that are co-ordinating this and it has improved over the weeks.
Initially I had elderly contacts who just did not want free food, they wanted to pay. That has been sorted here now and dignity for those people is treated very sensitively. I have contacts who literally deal in nothing but cash and it’s hard work but not impossible.
Please try your local council and if you have no joy I could ask for you? We have co- ordinators who can make referrals to the appropriate council.
It was very disorganised in the beginning but that has improved greatly.
In the first week of lockdown I was mistakenly hooked up with someone who lived in Nottingham 😳

The Green Mile is definitely up there. Watched it for the umpteenth time yesterday and it really is an awesome movie.
Another few that I have really enjoyed..
1917 A beautiful Mind Big Hero 6 Bohemian Rhapsody Cast Away Dances with Wolves Dead Poets Society Inception My Cousin Vinny One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest Paperman Rain Man Se7en Shane Shutter Island Slumdog Millionaire The Revenant The Shawshank Redemption The Sixth Sense
Sorry for the long list, got a bit carried away!
For those of you that enjoy a good chick flick, my own personal favourite is Sunshine on Leith. It is a cracking musical based on songs by The Proclaimers. Based in Edinburgh, it stars George MacKay who most recently received plaudits for his role in 1917.
Oh, might look for Sunshine on Leith. George McKay was good in the Beautiful Game as well I thought.
mhoc and Josie, we have been asking around for plaster, but not received any. The lad who is doing the plastering has not been able to get his hands on any as well. We will need a pallet of plaster to start off with...the walls are too big for one bag.
OH has found somewhere that still has the stuff to put under tiles in the bathroom... but I think I want vinyl..... which is one of the reasons everything takes so long... I am searching for appropriate flooring on auctions as this is the only way it can fit in the budget... it will take ages... I am just getting excited as it is near a milestone...
British gypsum has a message on their website and it will start to appear after the weekend. It has been changing hands for up to £80 a bag around here.. a major building company allegedly bought up everything in the factory a week before lockdown. I have an interest as ds2 is a plasterer etc and has no way of getting any so been laid off .
2 days prior to lockdown we had holes cut in bedroom ceiling for internal lights and new plasterboard and the room all prepped ready for skim plaster. Then lockdown! We had to put plastic on the ceiling so we could reuse the room .....it has been like sleeping in a giant crisp pack. The plasterer cannot get materials so I don’t know how long we will be.

Sunshine on Leith is fantastic but I am biast.
I’m not one for watching films again as you never get that initial buzz.
I finished watching the A word on BBC one tonight. I will admit to being drawn in by the autistic child angle but actually it’s a brilliant portrayal of just being normal.
Beautifully made, brilliant acting and characters and probably a little snapshot into anyone with a less than normal life.
Highly recommended from me.

I keep forgetting to post this. A while ago I ordered something from Debenhams and was looking for a voucher code so googled as you do and there were a few on vouchercodes.co.uk.
Anyway the one that I thought was suitable wouldn't work but I noticed that in their t's and c's at the bottom of the page it says we're so confident our codes will work we'll give you a voucher if they don't. So I thought well nothing lost, I'll send in a claim and expected to maybe get a £5 voucher or something but was offered a £20 voucher for either Currys or Primark! 😁
So worth trying if anyone else experiences this.
I've used it off the wizzy DeLonghi coffee machine that's on hot UK deals today.

Morning up early, think I was waiting for my campervan alarm to go off😂
Yesterdays update won't really effect me family wise, I've one on the other side of the world and one over two and half hours away. The one in the uk is a rather complicated situation with OH in the shield group. They wouldn't be able to drive to me, if I drove to them they would have to walk to a park, they live in a flat. I won't start a conversation about it with them, I will wait and see what her OH parents plan. But everyone else enjoy the new rules and don't burn your sausages 😂 Sorry if the last bit should of been upstairs
Enjoy the sunshine and slip, slap slop the factor, or sip sit and get squiffy in the shade 😂

Thank Gawd for Asda email reminders that you can still amend orders. I received two and thought, silly gits have sent email twice. Then noticed order numbers were different. I went onto my account and had a look at orders...... I have TWO for tomorrow at different times. As I book slots weeks ahead, I had accidentaly booked two of then, DUH! Cancelled one and updated the one I am keeping, stuff kept going out of stock by the time I went to checkout Surprise, surprise, most of it was the ice cream LOL
