I live in the South east and limescale is awful. Best and cheapest way to keep my kettle nice is put a few squirts of white vinegar (29p in Poundland) and boil. Leave for an hour then rinse thoroughly. When I looked at the price of Oust there is no comparison. Use the solution from the kettle and treat other taps in house so very moneysaving.
Did anyone else get the free descaler I posted about?
Just doing my kettle now. It's a disgrace😳
just over the last 2 months, ive been heating stuff in the gas oven when possible as it costs so little compared to microwave to heat up. 20-25 opposed to 1-2 mins only a little forward planning needed. so to save a little more electric. roughly how long does a kettle take to boil (one mug) on a gas ring.
Google says microwave typical 60% of energy goes into the food compared to 12-14% for gas ovens - however for us gas costs about quarter as much as electricity so both should cost about the same overall - whereas using an electric oven would be a fair bit more expensive than either a microwave or a gas oven.

I find vinegar smells too much for me, I use citric acid it's very cheap to buy in bulk (a powder) and doesn't smell. When I pour out the kettle I pour it into the loo so it can work some descaling magic there too.

If you really want to take it to extremes, put a pan of water in the oven when you are cooking your tea, them pop it in a flask.
Oh it's good to see your little dancing man again zippy
I've just popped in to see how you lot all are, and hopefully to welcome a few more new folks from MSE who I've invited to come and have a look at your forum Dave

Hi freewheeling. We are starting in Delhi then on to Agra next is rathambore. Back to Delhi overnight train to Amritsar and back to Delhi. Flight to Varanasi then flight to Mumbai. inland to Arungabad for Ellora caves then back to Mumbai. Flight to Benaulim Goa for flumping on the beach for 9 days before heading back to Delhi for a day before flying home. And breathe! A right whirlwind but had to fit in everyone's choices. Cost should come in around 4K for 3. Had a look at similar tours and they were asking 5.5k -6k pp. Proper excited now.
That sounds like a fab trip :-). I hope you all love it! I've found it very straightforward to just book trains/hotels etc myself and to travel around. I didn't bother this time as I was just on my own for a week, but it's really worth buying a local SIM card when you're out here. You can then use Uber and Ola to order taxis and tuk tuks and you know exactly what the price will be with no haggling. In Delhi the metro is great for getting around, and in Mumbai I found that the taxi drivers actually turned the meter on without me asking :-O.
If you're interested in ancient cave carvings (as you're going to Ellora) then definitely go to Elephanta Island off Mumbai. The carvings there are incredible.
I'm not sure if my tale of woe reached here, but in brief we lost DiL last July, so we have two beautiful grandchildren living with us almost full-time. I wouldn't be without them now, but it's bloomin hard work at our ages.
About the same time OH was diagnosed with bladder cancer, he had bladder removed in October. They found prostate cancer, so that was removed at the same time. He was recovering really well but he's been off colour for a few days, and has just been taken back in, possibly sepsis, but I'm hoping just a precaution.
Well, you did ask lol.
I'm shattered, and can't sleep but I had a feeling you and zippy would still be about
Last time we spoke (ages ago!) you we're moving? Hope that all went well
